Choosing A Dentist For Sedation

When it comes to choosing a dentist for sedation, here are some criteria that you can use.

Types of Sedation Offered
Very few dentists in the Phoenix area offer all three types of sedation: nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation. If you choose a dental office that offers all three types, you not only have more options, but you can also use a different type of sedation, depending on the procedure. For example, you could use laughing gas to help ease the anxiety of a dental cleaning, oral sedation for more complex procedures, and IV sedation for the most complex treatment.

State-Of-The-Art Dental Office
Ideally, you’ll want to choose a state-of-the-art dental office, one that has invested in the latest equipment and materials, including 3D X-rays.

Gentle Dental Team
Offering comfortable, compassionate dentistry extends beyond the use of sedation, to involve the entire dental team. Dental assistants, hygienists, and the dentist(s) should be committed to providing the most gentle dental care possible.

Communication
Communication is a major factor when it comes to choosing a dentist. Ideally, you’ll have good communication with the dentist throughout the procedure, slowing it down, if necessary. And you also should have ample opportunity before, during, and after each appointment to ask questions and voice your concerns.

Experience And Expertise
Experience and expertise can also impact your choice of dentist. You may prefer to visit a dentist who has extensive experience and specific expertise, in a given procedure and/or sedation.

If you’re not happy with your dentist or you haven’t been to the dentist in awhile, consider finding yourself a new dentist – one who offers sedation options!
