Laughing Gas ~ Nitrous Oxide Sedation Dentistry
Laughing gas, which has been in use in the United States since the 1800s, can help relax you at your next trip dental visit. This type of sedation for dentistry usually creates a peaceful, relaxed feeling, which makes it easier to undergo dental treatment.
Nitrous oxide is administered through a scented nose piece, and you feel the calming effects of it almost immediately. Not all dentists in the Phoenix metro area offer nitrous oxide, but we’re pleased to offer it to patients – for all types of dental procedures, including dental cleanings.
Laughing gas can be given by itself, but more commonly, it’s used with Novocain (which numbs the area being treated).
Laughing gas can be used for all types of dental procedures and treatments, including:
- dental cleanings
- crowns and bridges
- periodontal (gum) treatments
One of the advantages of laughing gas, as opposed to oral sedation or IV sedation (which we also offer), is that you can drive yourself to and from your dental appointment. With oral sedation and IV sedation, you’ll need to have someone bring you to our office and drive you home after your appointment, because it takes some time for those types of sedation to wear off.
